WELCOME TO THEJUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

The University of Saint Anthony, a non-sectarian and non-profit educational institution under the aegis of the philosophy: PIETAS, INTEGRITAS, SAPIENTIA, was established on August 18, 1947. Originally named as St. Anthony Academy, it was founded by a group of professionals known as Rinconada Educators Association. It started as a night high school, housed in a rented building in barangay San Francisco, with an enrollment of 131 students and a teaching staff of 8 teachers. Most of the students were over-aged, having been delayed by the five-year war.

In 1948, Dr. Santiago G. Ortega, was elected as President of the Board of Trustees and was appointed concurrent Director of the school. Under his leadership, the school was given recognition for its complete secondary course.

In 1959, the members of the Board of Trustees engaged in a power struggle. The school nearly closed for failing to comply with Bureau's requirements. There was a move to sell the school which did not materialize. Instead there was a reorganization of the Rinconada Educators Association and the reorganized group through Dr. Ortega's initiative acquires its new site, and the first owned school building was erected. It was a semi-permanent 14-room building.

Renamed as St. Anthony College when it started to offer collegiate courses, the enrollment began to increase until it reached the 8000 mark. From a small high school later becoming a college, and after 27 years of educational operation and educational service, the institution which has long aspired to be a University became the first university established in the Philippines under Martial Law.

To date, the High School department has been selected as one of the private schools nationwide to be included in the DOST – Engineering and Science Education Project. Under this DOST, SEI-DECS Program, Special Science Classes was started in School Year 1994-1995. The High School Department has also been adjudged as the Second Most Effective Private Secondary School in the Bicol Region on December 23, 1996.

Inspired by its triune ideals, the University aims to provide its students the opportunity to live a moral, spiritual, social, intellectual, and productive life in a democratic society that recognizes their intrinsic worth and dignity as individuals.

The Administration, whose obsession is to provide quality yet affordable education, reinforced its thrusts and agenda anchored on social responsibility toward the academic community and all stakeholders.
